The Song of Waimate - Musical Score The ‘Song of Waimate’ is dedicated to W. Geddes Esq.,who after travelling the world proclaimed Waimate as "The Best Little Town that I Know". The music was written by Harold Scotney and the words by George Dash. The song was written prior to the 1929 Jubilee of the Borough and was sung at the Radio Concert Broadcast from the Olympia Hall, Waimate on Friday 18th October, 1929. Thy foothills empurpled in gloaming Mt Studholme in sunset aglow, Waimate my heart turns while roaming To the best little town that I know Chorus Haerami [sic], kapai Waimate, Waituna, Wainono, Waihao, All circle hill-sheltered Waimate, The best little town that I know As sparkle in sunlight thy waters No landscape more beauty can show; The grace of the fern hath thy daughters, Oh the best little town that I know Chorus From Haka, through Tawai, to ocean, Wheat-laden thy fertile lands go.
