Spencer Charles Bennington's School of Aeronautics notes By S C Bennington Notes taken during/at School of Aeronautics 1918 In front of notebook SC Bennington C Flight No. 5 Squadron, No 1 Wing RAF Hastings. June 15th 1918. Spencer Charles Bennington was born in Waimate on 20th April 1896. He was educated at Geraldine Public School before working as an engineer. In December 1917 he took his Flying Certificate at the Canterbury Flying School in Christchurch (NZ) on a Caudron biplane. Flight Lieutenant Bennington left Geraldine en route for Dunedin in February 1918 to embark for England. He was to take up his position in the Royal Flying Corps. He sailed with the Expeditionary Force on the 'SS Mokoia' on 18th February 1918. Much of his time in overseas service was spent in Scotland and England. After the war Mr Bennington resided in Waimate (South Canterbury) where he worked as a plumber. He died in 1964 at the age of 67. |
