One piece of silk, screen printed with a design depicting the activities of the pupils at Rewi Alley's Sandan School in China, and a cavalry design from the Tunghuan Caves. - the dyes were made by the pupils at Sandan School. - the print is separated into 4 decorative panels. - the first panel, at the top, is of a school scene where students are working at a forge, on a loom, making objects and tanning leather, and the final scene is of the school itself. - the second panel is of a cavalry design with men on horseback with 2 carrying large flags. - the third panel is another school scene with the students working on the farm, milking goats, collecting clay and making it into pottery. - the last panel is of a similar scene to the second panel - cavalry with men on horseback. - between each panel there is a decorative border - 3 in total - the border is of ghostly figures. - the colours used - the background is in yellow with the figures, buildings and animals drawn in black and then filled in with pinks, greens, reds and greys. |

The silk print was sent to the Waimate Rewi Alley Aid Committee by Rewi Alley in appreciation for its financial assistance and gifts that it had sent to the Sandan School.
