One World War One NZ Army Officer's tunic (jacket) with badges for New Zealand Mounted Rifles - made from khaki twill with a dark green lining. - has 2 front breast pockets and 2 lower pockets. - has 4 large brass buttons on the front opening - has 6 smaller brass buttons on the 4 pockets and on the 2 epaulettes. - the buttons have 4 stars (Southern Cross) and the words, New Zealand Forces. - has 2 brass badges, on the epaulettes, NZMR. - on the sleeve cuffs there is braiding with embroidered pips, one on each cuff. - on the left cuff is an embroidered badge. - there is also evidence of badges that have been removed, either brass badges or embroidered ones. - has 2 brass belt holders on either side of tunic. |

Andrew Martin was a 2nd Lieutenant in the Canterbury Mounted Rifles, 7/90, and served during World War One. He was born in Timaru, lived in Otaio on the family farm, and moved to Morven in the 1920's and farmed there until he retired. |
